Cow's milk allergy in children.

چکیده
can cause morbidity in the infant or mother (or both), through inadequate intake of dietary components, especially calcium.6 In extreme cases this can lead to rickets.6 Acutely, IgE mediated cow’s milk allergy can result in anaphylaxis, hypoxia, and shock. Chronically, either form can lead to anaemia, hypoalbuminaemia, and faltering growth. Accurate diagnosis and engagement of families is therefore necessary for optimum outcome in children with confirmed or parentally perceived cow’s milk allergy. Failure of this can cause families to resort to medical or paramedical practitioners who offer non-validated tests and inadequately supervised treatment regimens.

Natural Course of Cow's Milk Allergy in Children with Atopic Dermatitis
Cow's milk is one of the most common food allergens in children with atopic dermatitis (AD). This study was conducted to describe the natural course of cow's milk allergy in children with AD, and to identify factors predictive of outcome. To accomplish this, we reviewed the medical records of 115 children who were diagnosed with AD and cow's milk allergy before 24 months of age to evaluate thei...
متن کاملErratum: Butter Tolerance in Children Allergic to Cow's Milk
We performed an oral food challenge (OFC) with 10 g of butter (equivalent of 2.9 mL cow's milk) and 25-mL heated cow's milk for 68 children with cow's milk-allergy. Thirty-eight children reacted only to heated cow's milk. Twenty-four children reacted to neither heated milk nor butter. Thirty-eight (86.4%) of 44 patients with positive results to the OFC for heated milk could safely tolerate butt...
متن کاملEfficacy of donkey's milk in treating highly problematic cow's milk allergic children: an in vivo and in vitro study.
Successful therapy in cow's milk protein allergy rests on completely eliminating cow's milk proteins from the child's diet: it is thus necessary to provide a replacement food. This prospective study investigated tolerance of donkey's milk in a population of 46 selected children with cow's milk protein allergy, for whom it was not possible to use any cow's milk substitute. Thirty-eight children ...
متن کاملThe predictive value of specific immunoglobulin E on the outcome of milk allergy.
BACKGROUND Cow's milk allergy is the most prevalent food hypersensitivity, affecting 2-3% of infants, but it tends to resolve with age. Cow's milk-specific immunoglobulin E in the serum is an important measure in the diagnosis and follow-up of infants and children with cow's milk allergy. OBJECTIVES To examine the relation between CmsIgE and the probability of resolution of milk allergy. ME...

متن کاملDetection of relevant amounts of cow’s milk protein in non-pre-packed bakery products sold as cow’s milk free
BACKGROUND Currently, there is no mandatory labelling of allergens for non-pre-packed foods in the EU. Therefore, consumers with food allergy rely on voluntary information provided by the staff. The aim of this study was to characterize allergic reactions to non-pre-packed foods and to investigate whether staff in bakery shops were able to give advice regarding a safe product choice. METHODS ...
